Water Conservation - Week long unit of study primarily done in small groups
TEKS – (4.7C) 4th/5th Science
Objective – Students will demonstrate an understanding of water conservation issues in their community and explain way in which they will purposefully conserve water in their daily lives.
The Hook-
Brainstorm whole group using Activboard- "How do you use water in your everday life?" "What water related activity do you think is most wasteful?"
Stated Objective and Purpose-
A greater awareness of water conservation in our everyday lives
Activity -
Explain project and finished product options in detail and develop grading rubric with students using Teach4Learning website.
Independent Practice-
Students determine their learning path and work independently.
Closure -
Think/Pair/Share about something new you learned today about water conservation in your home and thenshare what you worked on during independent work time.
Small Group Ideas:
Group A: Read the Article "Colorodo's Water: Making More From Less" .Fill out the Problem solutions sheet based on the problems presented in the article.
Group B: Use the iPod touches to use the custom search to find ways the conserve water.
Group C: Netbooks- Go to Quizlet and create 10 cards on conservation vocabulary.
Group D: Work on project
Group E: Conference with the teacher

Guided Practice -
Using Google Custom Search the teacher will model accessing the set web resources for the next student activity.
Custom search:
Present web tools that students can use to create final products. Ex. Prezi, Voicethread, Glogster, Pixton, Flipcamera video, blogs, etc.
